The best AI content writing tools now boast the ability to create high quality original content, indistinguishable from human-produced copy. They can also adapt existing pieces of content to suit multilingual purposes and provide translation services if required. AI may be the future of the web.
Use these tools as idea factories. Do not publish the raw outputs from AI writing tools on your blog unless you think that article spinning will be a good idea in 2023. We've recently observed a surge in the number of sites filled entirely with AI-generated material. Some appear to be doing really well.
However, Google will figure out how to find and penalize these websites. Who knows how far down the line the penalties will go?
AI software tools work wonders for social media posts and sales pages, but don't get too cocky when using them for website content. Google has sophisticated algorithms that can detect machine-written content and AI altered plagiarised content. The result will be a demoting of your articles in search at best, or a penalty against the entire website at worst.
The following GPT-3 detection tools can help you identify machine-written text:
GPT-3 and GPT-4, the deep learning algorithms that power AI writing tools are capable of producing human-like text. And the algorithms improving all the time.
Right now, you can use these tools to help you create high quality blog posts, introductions, outreach emails, social media posts and captions, page titles, meta descriptions, and a lot more. Some tools are a little rough around the edges. Others are pretty good at producing useable text for marketing purposes.

Copy ai
Copy.ai’s team is growing fast and it’s one of the most heavily-backed startups in this space.
Banish writer's block with one of the best AI writing tools with one of the longest lists of advanced features and integrations, and the longest history in the AI space.
Here are just some of the types of unique content that you can create with Copy.ai:
- Blog Intros – great for helping you brainstorm intros to your blog posts

ChatGPT has created a trend: Copy.ai now has a “chat” feature built in. So if you've been using #ChatGPT's instant AI writing features, you can now use Copy.ai's chat feature to talk directly with the AI. Just type in your query and the bot will reply instantly with current informaton and citations.
One advantage of using Copy's chat feature is that it can reach out and read current URLs, YouTube videos, anything you like. This is something ChatGPT cannot (or will not) do.
So if you need to summarize an article or transcribe a YouTube video, for example, ask for it in the chat.
One of the most-used features in my writing flow is the autocomplete feature (accessed through the sidebar “notes” area) is incredibly helpful and a massive timesaver. It's like Google autocomplete in Docs but much, much better. It's one of the reasons why I continue to use this particular AI writer over the competitors for most tasks.

And a neat addition is the list of citations at the bottom of every post. Whether you want to include these citation in your content or not, it's very handy to see exactly where the AI has sourced it's information. You can also save your favorite prompts to use later. Long story short, Copy's new AI chat feature is like ChatGPT multiplied by 10 and this adds so much to one of my favorite writing tools.
I like to use the sidebar notes featture as a long form editor to build up content and rephrase or autocomplete the text as I write. And the free browser extension is a neat feature for those that find they need an AI writer on the fly.
Select your tone of voice
The free plan gets you 2000 words a month but the paid plan offers unlimited words and unlimited content generation. That's hard to beat, especially with Copy's tempting pricing.
The best AI writing software? Quite possibly.
Frase
Frase, our first Copy AI alternative, is a content marketing tool that creates detailed briefs for article writers, and uses Natural Language Generation (NLG) software to produce SEO-optimized blog posts, high-quality articles, and more.
Frase uses its own NLG software, similar to GPT-3 to learn from the documents it reads. The current NLG model is trained using billions of text documents and the goal is to understand the world through language.
I generally use a combination of Frase and Copy.ai to generate content, audit blog posts, and rewrite sentences or entire sections.
Frase synthesizes inputs and uses its own algorithms to avoid plagiarism
Frase differentiates itself from the other AI writing software tools in this list by using a slightly different model to not only train the algorithm but to generate content. While the other products use unique inputs (which generally take the form of similar or even identical data for businesses competing for the same keywords), Frase synthesizes the inputs and uses its own algorithms to avoid plagiarism or creating the same content as everyone else.
The FAQ generation and Outline Generation tools are particularly handy for creating unique sets of frequently asked questions and brief outlines to help content writers produce high-quality work.
As part of its natural language processing and machine learning methodologies, Frase understands and learns from the content in order to produce the most relevant summaries and content optimization suggestions. The Natural Language Processing (NLP) algorithms determine which words and phrases are most relevant to the content, and this helps the software build a change list that will make your content more concise, clear, and informative. Frase also makes suggestions to improve the readability of the text.
Frase's AI tools include an Article Rewriter, a tool to create a How-To Blog Post, a tool to write Featured Snippets in numbered list format, and an Outline to Draft generator. When you use these tools in combination with the content editor, it is possible to achieve truly amazing results.
The built-in plagiarism checker and the integration with Google Search Console make Frase stand out in a crowd of same-same Ai-powered writing assistants.
And now you can use all the power of WordPress directly inside your WordPress administration area with the new WordPress plugin from Frase.
Notion
Notion is known as a note-taking app. It's one tool that many productivity gurus can't live without. And lots of writers and cotnent marketers use Notion to simplify their lives and improve their writing workflow.
Notion might not seem like an obvious choice for an AI writing tool roundup, but Notion’s AI writing assistant and AI productivity features, which use natural language processing techniques, are outstanding.
You're likely to notice how quickly the output is generated. Ask Notion’s AI to write something and you get an almost instant answer. This contrasts with ChatGPT using GPT-4, which can be slow waiting for the AI engine to fire.
Notion is also able to work on much larger blocks of text than ChatGPT. This is a huge bonus and a reason in itself to choose this AI writing software. With some tools, ChatGPT in particular, there's a limit (token limit) to the amount of text you can work with.

Currently, to get the full capabilities of the AI tools past the initial free usage tier, you’ll need to fork out around $10 a month. This is a real bargain as some AI writing assistants can cost a lot more (ChatGPT’s paid plan is $20 a month, for example)
The Notion AI writer is super convenient – it’s fully integrated with the Notion user interface – no more switching between applications.
Notion AI writer is great for content creators who want to make relevant and engaging content with minimum fuss. The great news is that Notion's AI capabilities are baked right into the Notion's beautiful user interface.
If you’ve used this productivity tool, you’ll know how easy it is to write, create, build, and reorganize any kind of content. Now you don’t have to leave the app to create content or brainstorm ideas. Arrange things quickly with the super convenient drag-and-drop editor loved by users of the app. Rewrite content and turn boring drafts into engaging content. Lots of flexibility here.
RankIQ
RankIQ appears to be cited in almost every piece of SEO research I read these days, as well as every podcast I listen to. The marketing efforts of this new player in the SEO space, run by Brandon Gaille, a successful blogger and web traffic generator, are certainly intense. However, there is clearly substance behind all of the marketing.
For many bloggers, RankIQ works like a charm, even in this crowded SEO market. This tool isn't the cheapest content optimization solution and certainly not the cheapest AI writing software. But it's the new kid on the block and is creating a name for itself with a creative approach to content creation and optimization.
RankIQ prepares comprehensive blog post outlines quickly by analyzing AI content reports to find the topics that Google's ranking algorithm recommends you cover. The AI-powered writing software suggests what to include in your post so you can generate a well-rounded piece of content that has a chance of ranking on the first page of the search engine's results.
The tool is largely focused on low-competition keywords (also known as long-tail keywords) and offers a database of phrases that will almost certainly generate traffic if you write about them. The main approach is to assist you in using these keywords for new posts or incorporating them into existing content. The idea is that by using AI-generated recommendations, you would be able to expand your site much faster than you would with ordinary, “harder” key phrases and themes.
ChatGPT
No list of AI content writing software would be complete without ChatGPT. Is it the Ai content writing app you’ll be using next year? Maybe, but that depends on he kind of content you’re looking for. It’s great at delivering generic bulk content at a ridiculously low price (zero cost, in most cases) but it’s also prone to producing inaccurate information and has a low-quality content output problem.
The team at OpenAI is aware of the problems and is working on preventing ChatGPT from hallucinating (this is a nice way of saying “lying”).
I find ChatGPT to be particularly good at things like:
- Producing social media captions
- Creating sales copy
- Suggesting topics or outlines for blog posts
- Creating a list of hashtags, topic ideas, keywords, or Google Ads titles
- Finding the missing SEO entities in a piece of text
It’s definitely not the best at creating high-quality articles. In fact, I recommend not using it to create articles of any kind. You can certainly work with the tool when writing articles, but don’t let it do all the work. It’s great if you want to brainstorm and write faster. And with unlimited words for zero cost, it’s tempting to move your entire content production to ChatGPT. It’s certainly a powerful tool, but understanding its limitations is also important.
There’s also the issue of the maximum tokens you can work with. If you need to summarize long-form content or wrangle large amounts of data, you might find the limitations too much to work with.
Anyword
When I first started using AI copywriting software for long-form content, I was impressed. But it didn't take long to realize that few tools are capable of producing usable copy. Some popular tools claim to be able to generate all your blog content, but simply do not meet the mark.
Other AI writing tools do a fantastic job of creating ad copy and short-form posts for social, but are not so great on long-form content. Anyword, on the other hand, gets the thumbs up for blog and website content generation, as well as for almost everything else.
My results are mighty impressive – editing is rarely required.

The exciting new ‘Prompt' feature lets you create content in any tone or for any purpose by inputting you own writing prompts. However, this feature lacks predictive performance scoring or analytics, and pre-made templates are suggested for data-driven copywriting.
Anyword is marketed as a sales and advertising copy tool that undeniably aids marketers in crafting attention-grabbing email subject lines, impactful ad copy, and conversion-focused landing page copy. Nonetheless, the platform's long-form blog post content is equally impressive.
Jasper
This tool is one of the most hyped in the AI copywriting and conversion copywriting world. But the hype might be real. With a growing team based out of Austin, Texas (the new Silicon Valley) and financial backing, Jasper (formerly called Jarvis) offers a suite of content marketing and writing tools to watch closely.
There are three price ranges to get started. The cheapest costs $29 per month and gives you access to most of the tools with some limitations.
The Boss Mode plan costs $59 per month (down from the original $119) but turns your marketing team into a copywriting powerhouse. Even for solo entrepreneurs, Boss Mode will save a lot of time thanks to the auto-writing features.
There's a free trial so you can test out everything it has to offer with no downside.
Use the Recipes feature to save time with templates for typical writing projects.

I was equally impressed with the content generated by the AIDA and Pain-Agitate-Solution PAS copywriting formula templates. And the “Sentence Expander”, Blog Post Conclusion Paragraph, Content Improver, Video Script Outline, Product Descriptions, and Text Summarizer tools are invaluable. There are even Quora Answers, Engaging Answers, and Explain It To A Child templates.
Here's a video of Jasper's AI Blog writing tool in action based on three inputs: title, description, and keywords.
The possibilities are endless and the developers are adding new key features every month. Jasper is touted as an automated article writing software product but I don't think it's there yet. It takes a lot of work to edit content from the AI writer to make it usable or even coherent most of the time. Of course, the tool can produce high-quality content that you can use with minimal editing. But this is the case mostly with shorter content. The days of automated article production are still some time away.
Jasper now integrates with Surfer SEO (one of the marketing world's premier SEO assistant tools) so you can use Jasper's writing assistant tools for ideas and outlines and then produce SEO-optimized content with Surfer SEO.
Many people ask how is Jasper vs Copy.ai, which seems to be the benchmark for all other AI copywriting software. I prefer Copy.ai because of the use cases and the prices. But many marketers and technical writers love Jasper for the automatic completion features.
Scalenut
Scalenut helps you rapidly scale content production without sacrificing SEO best practices. This platform offers one of the best user interfaces, in terms of appearance and ease of use. And price-wise, it's hard to beat $12 a month for Unlimited Short form AI words and 20,000 long-form AI words a month.
But before you dive in, it's worth noting that at this stage, early 2022, the quality of the short-form content generator is below that of most of the other tools. But Scalenut is a great tool for knocking out first drafts for writers.
The content editor can be shared with a content team to help them write SEO-optimized content with the help of Scalenut's AI tools. I recommend Scalenut to solopreneurs, content writers, freelancers, and copywriters who are competent writers but need a tool that speeds up the content creation process.
A great choice if you need software that helps you perform research, create fast drafts, fine-tune the text, and answer the “user intent” of a search query.
Peppertype
Pepper-type AI content is all about creating content that is easy for people to read and understand. In my tests, I've found the results to be better than most of the other tools on a consistent basis. It really does produce good writing in most niches.
Peppertype is understandably very popular with writers and marketers. It's probably not more widely used because of some limitations with the prompts and options. But if your use cases are covered, it's hard to go wrong with Peppertype.

I find the Content Rewriter tool to be particularly good at rephrasing short pieces of text. Rather than use it as some kind of article spinner, I prefer to think of it as a tool for improving the way I present my ideas. It forces me to think about how I can say something in a different way, which can be great for improving the clarity of my writing.
Some other tools worth noting are the Content Expander, Personal Bio (great for social media bios), Poll Questions and Answers, and the Paragraph Writer.
Another tool that I use on a daily basis.
These AI detection tools can help you identify machine-written text:
CopySmith
I first tried this AI writer tool when it was released as a lifetime deal on Appsumo. That deal is long gone but CopySmith has evolved into a much better product. On revisiting the tool in late 2022, I was impressed with the leaps and bounds in terms of quality that CopySmith has managed to achieve.
The ‘uniqueness' checker, which essentially checks for plagiarism in your documents as you work on them, is something we've also seen in Frase. And it's a welcome feature to both platforms.
Copysmith offers unique content-generation templates (FAQ ideas, Carousel Ads, Amazon product description builder, branding tools, and Unique Selling Point generators) and even has a custom content generator for people that really want to sharpen their AI tools.
The article summary tool is handy for research and article writing and the content enhancer helps you refine and improve your written content.
There's also a Chrome Extension so you can work outside of the platform.
And the company recently added a Zapier integration to help automate your workflows and a Publish to Google Docs tool for exporting your work easily.
Copysmith subscription plans start at $19/month for basic but key features. This Starter Plan gets you 40,000 words a month. You also get 20 plagiarism checks and all the integrations with this plan.
Copysmith is a solid product for SEO content, ads, and email writing. How does it compare to Copy.ai? Well, that will depend on your use case. I feel that Copy.ai is a better product overall, but Copysmith is catching up.
Rytr
One of the newest tools on the list but one that is proving popular on the popularity charts. Billed as an AI writing assistant, Rytr is great at composing short paragraphs,
Choose from a long list of writing tones, including enthusiastic, humorous, convincing, earnest, and inspirational. There are new features released regularly so this tool feels like one that will stand the test of time. The developers are active and happy to receive and act upon feedback.
Check out the new “Continue Ryting” feature which will endlessly write content based on initial inputs. Highlighting a section of text gives you detailed information about that section including a Readability score, something I find very useful.

You can even translate to other languages for multi-language SEO purposes.
Use cases include interview questions, business idea pitches, content rewording, profile bio, Facebook Ads, and the usual blog post intro and video titles.
Starting at $9 a month, it’s also one of the best value products in this list of AI writing software. Customer support is great – there’s a really engaged development and support team – and there’s a free trial, so no excuse not to check out this excellent copywriting tool.
Nichesss
This tool definitely wins the prize for worst name and ugliest user interface. But the results are pretty good. I’d rate it one of the best. There are some weird features that you just need to stumble across and then ignore essentially.
It’s also a bit cumbersome, but I like the results and once you figure out what kinds of prompts deliver the best results, you can run with it and create tons of great content ideas.
It's a competent AI blog writing tool with tons of features that I'm really impressed with. This used to be a budget option for people that need an inexpensive writing assistant. Prices have increased, a lot, but that's an indication of how much people value the tool.
Nichess can write long form content based on customized templates. I haven't found this to be particularly useful and the output is so-so. But if you're looking for a place to start or need some structure to your long form content to kickstart the writing process, this could work for you. A quick template outline is often better than a blank page.
Writecream
Writecream is an AI writing platform that produces fresh marketing content, email copy, social media-focused text, advertising copy, and product reviews for your business.
But Writecream manages to stand out in a crowded space with some unique tools.
- Voiceover – this tool generates human voice audio that you can use in campaigns, emails, YouTube, etc.
- Long form content – while not as advanced as Jasper's offering, The long-form editor in Writecream is great for quickly putting together large bodies of text.
- Quora Answer Assist – helps you generate answers to relevant questions on Quora, one of the largest websites on the internet. This can drive a significant amount of online traffic when done correctly. Use QApop to find the best topics and most engaged discussions. (code FFM will get you 10% off)
- Product Review Generator – create reviews for products in seconds. I'll leave it up to you to decide where to use this content.
Smart Copy
Formerly called Snazzy.ai, Smart Copy was recently acquired by Unbounce, a well-established landing page software company, so there's a little muscle behind the product. The company's mission is to help brands and agencies create content at scale for their platforms.
This is one of the few copy tools that offers free generations every day. You get 5 free copy credits daily, which is pretty great considering some other tools charge $30 a month for something similar.
Smart Copy’s repertoire of templates includes blog content ideas, landing pages, Google Ads, Amazon listings, viral growth ideas, email subject lines, Facebook Ads, and TikTok video ideas.
There's a great Chrome extension that you can use with the monthly free credits.
The following are some of the unique generators in the platform:
- Podcasting Ideas
- Funny 404 pages
- TikTok ideas
- Thank you notes
- Pitch a VC (venture capitalist)
- Pitch an Angel (investor)
- Mission Statement
Wordtune
Wordtune works a little differently from the other tools on the list but it can be combined with any of the others to create truly impressive AI copy.
This web-based writing platform and Google Chrome extension lets you rewrite sentences using the power of AI. It’s really impressive and a great way to spice up your writing.
If you find yourself repeatedly writing in a particular way, or if your AI writing software produces boring results, use WordTune to tighten up and polish the text.
Wordtune can also be used to take the AI-generated content and rewrite it so there’s even less chance of plagiarism.
All in all, a highly recommended tool for improving your writing with the help of an AI writing assistant. The Premium plan costs $9.99 a month but the free plan includes the Rewrite feature which is probably all that you need.
Where to use these tools
Here are just some of the situations where these tools can generate high return on investment (ROI).
- Social media captions.
- New blog post intro brainstorming
- Outlines for landing pages and sales pages
- Google Ads & Facebook Ads
- Sales copy
- Meta descripton ideas
- Video title ideas
- General digital marketing copy
I don’t recommend using these tools to try and write entire blog posts unless you want to insult your audience's intelligence. While it’s possible to put together a post based on some prompts and headlines, it still takes some time to form a coherent article. And even if you managed to splice together multiple sections of content writing, the results are always, always boring, lifeless, and lacking in any kind of soul.
Your use cases come down to your goals and aspirations.
If you’re okay with publishing lackluster blog posts just to get content out there, you might save yourself the hassle of writing. It’s unlikely you will save much time but if you don’t want to write, this is an option.
If you’re okay with your articles sounding like a rehash of all of the other content on the internet, which it essentially will be, then go for it.
Keep in mind that GPT-3 creates content based on scraped data that exists on the internet already. It can’t really come up with anything original apart from the arrangement of text on a page. Sure, your AI-Generated content will pass plagiarism checks but it won't win prizes for originality. If you’re using it for purely informational marketing copy, blog posts, or filler content for Ecommerce stores, then it will work fine with some editing. But don’t expect it to replace good copywriting, scriptwriters, creative storytellers, or just good, insightful, and thoughtful blogging.
Then you need to keep in mind that while AI writing software tools use machine learning and as a result, are growing smarter. But so is Google. And Google’s algorithm keeps getting better at detecting anomalies, plagiarism, and mass-produced, low-quality content. It's likely Google has already put checks in place to identify AI-generated content.
Essentially, Google could create AI to determine if your content is merely generated by another algorithm.
The bottom line is, be careful and be judicious with your use of these powerful tools. Use them like assistants and not like front-line marketers.
Frequently Asked Questions
What alternatives are there to these AI copywriting software tools?

Can content writing be automated?
AI writing assistants can certainly help with the content writing process by generating ideas and building rough outlines. But there are a few niches that automated copywriting and content writing can serve.
Can AI create a story?
By training on large volumes of short stories and novels, AI algorithms are taught to understand ideas and concepts. They learn how to use linguistic rules in order to write stories on their own. Unfortunately, these results still have a lot of room for improvement. Artificial intelligence is not yet able to create compelling plots that have an interesting structure.
